In this instructional course a comprehensive reconstructive ladder for thumb reconstruction will be presented. This will range from simple reconstruction, including hand flaps and soft tissue coverage to various types of free toe-to-thumb transfer. Alternative strategies such as groin flaps and osteoplastic reconstruction will also be presented.
Key points to be discussed include: Treatment algorithms for thumb reconstruction based on level of injury, selection of type of free toe-to-thumb transfer and non-microsurgical alternatives.
Learning Objectives:
- To provide a comprehensive review of reconstructive options for thumb injuries.
- To highlight reliable local and regional flaps for thumb reconstruction.
- To optimize selection of toe-to-thumb transfer techniques for thumb reconstruction.
- To present a streamlined algorithm for thumb reconstruction techniques.
- To discuss challenging cases requiring thumb reconstruction.
